Dr. Radojko Jaćimović on Ugriznimo znanost: Presenting Neutron Activation Analysis / 26.09.2025
On September 25, 2025, our researcher Dr. Radojko Jaćimović appeared on the popular science TV show Ugriznimo znanost (Let’s Bite into Science), where he introduced the method of neutron activation analysis (NAA) in the episode Radioactive Tracers.
The program highlighted the fascinating history and applications of radioactive tracers. It recalled how Hungarian chemist and Nobel laureate Georg von Hevesy, while still a student, suspected his landlady of serving him reheated leftovers. To prove it, he sprinkled his food with a radioactive tracer and later confirmed its presence with a detector when the same dish was served again—marking the first recorded use of radioactive tracers.
Today, this principle has become an essential tool in science. Radioactive tracers allow us to follow molecules in plants and the human body, track schools of fish and ocean currents, and even contribute to the protection of endangered species and valuable cultural heritage.
Through his appearance, Dr. Jaćimović demonstrated how neutron activation analysis applies this principle in modern research, offering unique insights into processes that would otherwise remain invisible.
