Intercalibration campaign for mercury measurements at CNR-IIA (Italy) / 29.06.2023

Since June 12, members of the Department of Environmental Sciences dr. Igor Živković and Teodor-Daniel Andron have been participating in the intercalibration/intercomparison campaign for mercury measurements in atmospheric samples.

Intercalibration was organized by the Italian CNR-IIA (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche – Istituto sull'Inquinamento Atmosferico) within the SI-Hg project (Metrology for traceable protocols for elemental and oxidized mercury concentrations).

The purpose of the intercalibration campaign was to test the application of different mercury calibrators and certified reference materials used for the calibration of commonly used instruments for atmospheric mercury analysis by various vendors. This will allow the assessment of the applicability of various calibration techniques on different measurement systems under real-field measurement conditions in practice.

Although initially planned to be performed at the Monte Curcio Climatic-Environmental Observatory, the location of the intercalibration and intercomparison exercise was changed to CNR-IIA premises at Rende, Italy. The intercomparison campaign will continue for additional several weeks through atmospheric mercury measurements by automated instrumentations.
