New Acquisition: Ion Chromatography System for Environmental Waters / 8.05.2026
We are happy to announce that a new Ion Chromatography (IC) system, the Dionex ICS-6000 HPIC System combined with an AS-DV Autosampler, is now fully operational at the Reactor Centre - O2 Department and supports routine environmental water analyses for daily research activities.
The IC system is used for basic water chemistry analyses, specifically the determination of inorganic anions and cations in environmental waters. These analyses provide important baseline data and complement the advanced analytical equipment already available at the O2 Department, including multi-elemental, organic and isotopic analyses.
The instrument was acquired through the IAEA Technical Cooperation Project SLO7001, “Upgrading Capacities for Integrated Water Resources Management”, carried out during 2024–2025. This was the first IAEA TC project in Slovenia in the field of water resources management. The project was implemented in cooperation between the Geological Survey of Slovenia and the Jožef Stefan Institute, with support from the Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
More information about the project is available here: Project description – Geological Survey of Slovenia
The new IC system will support research on water ecosystems, water quality studies, and those related to sustainable water resource management. We are excited about this new tool and the possibilities it brings for our research. We are also open to collaborations in the field and invite anyone interested to reach out for joint research opportunities.
