New publication on quality control of precipitation isotope data / 11.05.2026

Researchers from the Department of Environmental Sciences (O2) have co-authored a new scientific article presenting a tool for quality control of stable isotope data in precipitation. The publication is the result of more than 10 years of collaboration with Hungarian colleagues in the field of isotope hydrology.

The article, titled “IsoQC – A tool for quality control of precipitation stable isotope data”, was published in the journal Journal of Hydrology: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jhydrol.2026.135401

O2 co-authors of the paper are prof. dr. Sonja Lojen, dr. Klara Žagar, dr. Jan Gačnik and dr. Polona Vreča.

An important contribution of the publication is Appendix A, which contains more than 13,000 monthly precipitation O and H isotope data records collected from the GNIP programme, published scientific papers, the SLONIP platform, and the archive of the Jožef Stefan Institute.

Testing of IsoQC App was performed on O and H isotope data from 21 locations in Slovenia and 31 locations in its surroundings.
