Participation of the Department of Environmental Sciences at COP6 in Geneva / 5.11.2025
Representatives of the Department of Environmental Sciences (O-2) took part in the Sixth Conference of the Parties (COP6) to the Minamata Convention on Mercury, held in Geneva from 3 to 7 November 2025 (www.mercuryconvention.org)
During the meeting, our team contributed to the Knowledge Labs, which run alongside the main COP discussions on the Convention’s priorities. We presented our work within the Open-Ended Scientific Group (OESG) and the Effectiveness Evaluation Group (EEG), highlighting research on global mercury modelling, human exposure assessment through biomonitoring, and studies of mercury emissions and releases to soil and water.
Our participation reflects the Department’s long-standing commitment to understanding and reducing mercury impacts on health and the environment. Through our research, we support better exposure assessment, reliable and comparable measurements, and contribute to the visibility of Slovenia’s role within the EMEP MSC-East Centre, which focuses on modelling mercury transport in the environment.
The event also offered a valuable opportunity to strengthen cooperation and build new connections in this globally important field.
