Rok Novak at Scientific Slam 2026: communicating urban cycling research to the public

On 25 March 2026, Rok Novak will participate in the Scientific Slam at Kino Šiška, presenting research from the URBANOME project and the Urban Cycling Lab Ljubljana in an accessible and engaging format. His talk, titled “To Cycle or Not to Cycle, That Is the Question?”, brings scientific findings on cyclists’ exposure to air pollution and noise into a public setting designed to stimulate interest and discussion.

The presentation explores a central question emerging from the project: whether cycling remains a beneficial mode of transport in urban environments affected by environmental stressors. Drawing on data collected through the Urban Cycling Lab, the talk highlights how exposure varies across routes and conditions, while reinforcing the broader conclusion that cycling remains a valuable and healthy mobility option.

By translating complex research into an entertaining and understandable format, the event contributes to bridging the gap between science and the public. Such initiatives are an important extension of the Living Lab approach, ensuring that knowledge generated through participatory research is communicated beyond academic and policy contexts.

The event will take place at Kino Šiška as part of the Scientific Slam 2026 programme. More details are available at: https://znc.si/dogodki/znanstveni-slam/znanstveni-slam-2026-hrana-za-mozgane/
