Sampling of water and sediment in the Gulf of Trieste / 26.05.2022

Between 18. and 19. 2022 May co-workers of the Department of Environmental Sciences, dr. Jože Kotnik, Stojan Žigon and Ali Saeed, and visitors from University of Brussels, Vincent Perrot and Tianhui Ma, performed sampling of water and sediment around Soča River inflow in the Gulf of Trieste.

Samples of water and sediments were taken on five locations, chosen around fixed buoys, where passive samplers could be installed. Analysis of dissolved gaseous and reactive mercury in water were done immediately after sampling in laboratories of Italian Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale (OGS) in Miramare. Sediment core samples were cut under nitrogen atmosphere to separate pore water from solid sediment fraction immediately after sampling.

Further samples will be processed at IJS laboratories for Hg speciation, C13, and other analysis
