Science in the Hands of the People: Can We Also Finance It? / 13.03.2026

On March 12, 2026, the roundtable discussion Science in the Hands of the People: Can We Also Finance It? took place in Ljubljana, organized by the Civic Science Network and Central Technical Library of the University of Ljubljana. The event focused on the challenges and opportunities of funding citizen science projects in Slovenia.

The discussion featured a range of experts, including Živa Sukič from ARIS, Tit Neubauer from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Sport (MVZI), ambassador Zarja Muršič, Dr. Urška Lampe from IRRIS, Dr. David Kocman from the Jožef Stefan Institute (IJS), Marjana Hönigsfeld from LUTRA, and Žiga Cerkvenik from the National Institute of Biology (NIB).

The main objective was to explore solutions for improving access to funding and enhancing the conditions for project calls related to civic science.
