Wastewater Treatment Plant Sludge Featured in Ugriznimo znanost / 9.06.2026

On 4 June 2026, the Slovenian national television programme Ugriznimo znanost aired a feature titled “Wastewater Treatment Plant Sludge: A Sewage Sludge Fertilisation Experiment”.

The programme presented key findings from the UPTAKE project, which have provided the scientific foundation for the follow-up WIDER UPTAKE project. Researchers discussed the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of treated sewage sludge in agriculture and highlighted the importance of evidence-based assessment of its environmental impacts.

The results demonstrated that significant research and evaluation are still needed before firm conclusions can be drawn regarding the suitability of sewage sludge for application on agricultural land. The study underlines the importance of continued monitoring and interdisciplinary research to ensure environmental safety and sustainable resource management.
