Beyond the Stack: Emission and Dispersion of Mercury Species in Anhovo / 21.02.2024

The research work performed by Sreekanth Vijayakumaran Nair, Jože Kotnik, Jan Gačnik, Igor Živković, and Milena Horvat from JSI, was featured on Envirotech-online news for our focus on continuous emission monitoring (CEM).

The purpose of the study was to compare mercury emissions from cement production based on the plant's raw mill operational condition, perform long-term mercury speciation near the plant, identify any correlation with local meteorological factors, and assess the impact of plant emissions on mercury fractions in the surrounding area. The study focused on a cement plant in Slovenia that has been a prominent cement producer for many years and has implemented alternative fuel utilization to reduce fossil fuel consumption.
