IAEA NC SLO7001 “Training on statistical interpretation of isotope data and modelling in R” / 18.07.2025
On 14th and 15th July 2025, a "Training on statistical interpretation of isotope data, and modelling in R" was held at the Department of Environmental Sciences.
The training was led by dr. István Gábor Hatvani from the Institute for Geological and Geochemical Research, HUN-REN Research Centre for Astronomy and Earth Sciences, Budapest, Hungary and was organized in the frame of the Slovenian national IAEA project »Upgrading Capacities for Integrated Water Resources Management« – NC SLO7001.
The training was supported by additional expert from Hungary, dr. Zoltán Kern and brought together researchers from Geological Survey of Slovenia and Jožef Stefan Institute that participate in the NC SLO7001 related activities.
During the 2-days training interactive online application IsoQC designed for distance-based and density-based outlier filtering of precipitation stable isotopes records was presented. The IsoQC was developed based on monthly precipitation stable isotope dataset from Slovenia (https://slonip.ijs.si/ and other IJS archived data) and available datasets from the surrounding countries. Further, basic introduction to R was given as well as calculations and visualization of trend analysis of isotopic time series in R was presented.
The participants were actively engaged in testing of the IsoQC and time series analysis in R on various datasets provided by the experts and participants.
The training proved to be highly valuable, empowering participants with a variety of new techniques for identification of possible isotope data outliers and time series analysis.
