Head of Environmental Informatics Research Group

The work of the Environmental Informatics Research group has been focused on studying the role of laypeople in scientific research and the use of citizen science (CS) approaches in environmental and health studies for more than a decade. In these studies, participants are not merely passive data collectors and information recipients, but actively engage in various phases of research. Among other aspects, the role of participants in co-creating results is examined, tools that enable their active involvement are developed, the inclusion of such concepts in the school curriculum is explored, and the role of participatory approaches in environmental epidemiology is analyzed. Different approaches and tools for motivating participants, the user experience of the participants, as well as the ethical aspects of this type of research, are also analyzed. The group has been involved in several EU projects dealing with CS and has published numerous papers on various related aspects.
