At the O2 seminar on 18 March 2026 at 13:00, Dr. Rok Novak will present his project Participatory Agent-Based Modeling for Flood Risk Management: Integrating Local Knowledge, AI, and Decision Support Systems. The project focuses on the use of participatory agent-based modelling, artificial intelligence and decision support systems to improve flood risk management.
On 26–27 February 2026, the ETP Food for Life community met in Brussels to discuss the Implementation Action Plan (IAP) 2025, a roadmap for advancing research and innovation supporting the transformation of Europe’s food system. ETP Food for Life is a European Technology Platform that brings together industry, researchers, and policymakers to define research and innovation priorities that strengthen the sustainability, resilience, and competitiveness of the European food sector.
On March 12, 2026, the roundtable discussion Science in the Hands of the People: Can We Also Finance It? took place in Ljubljana, organized by the Civic Science Network and Central Technical Library of the University of Ljubljana. The event focused on the challenges and opportunities of funding citizen science projects in Slovenia.
At the O2 seminar on 11 March 2026 at 13:00 in the O2 lecture room, two new projects will be presented. Igor Živković will present the project ComPass, and Marko Štrok will present the project THERA.SI.
A recent scientific publication co‑authored by our department’s co-worker has received the prestigious CITAC Best Paper Award 2025, recognising exceptional contributions to chemical metrology. The award highlights the global impact of the team’s work on stable isotope reference materials.
The O2 Seminar on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, at 1 PM will showcase the latest ARIS projects advancing environmental and atmospheric science. Presentations include Janja Vidmar on micro- and nanoplastics in grapevines (PLASTVINE) and Jan Gačnik on atmospheric mercury dynamics (AtMoMer and M-CAT). Join us for the next O2 Seminar on 18 February 2026 at 13:00. Carlos Rumbo Lorenzo from ICCRAM – Universidad de Burgos will present their work on evaluating the antimicrobial properties and toxicity of new compounds aimed at tackling multidrug-resistant bacteria.
We are pleased to announce that the scientific article “Harmonized human biomonitoring in European children, teenagers and adults: EU-wide exposure data of 11 chemical substance groups from the HBM4EU Aligned Studies (2014–2021)”, published in the International Journal of Hygiene and Environmental Health, has received the 2025 Best Paper Award for outstanding scientific contribution among articles published in 2023.
The O2 Seminar will take place on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, at 13:00 (CET) and will feature Maria Rubio and Jure Ftičar from the Environmental Informatics Group. The seminar, titled “Participatory approaches in environmental health & supporting ICT-based tools”, will explore how ICT-based tools support participatory methods such as citizen science and stakeholder engagement in environmental health research.
